1 Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal and usage data:

Account Information

Full Name — provided during registration, used to identify your account
Email Address — used for account creation and OTP-based passwordless authentication

Measurement and Session Data

Fish measurements — length and width values recorded during AR field surveys
Session records — session name, date, time, and associated measurements
Photographs — images captured during AR measurement, stored locally on your device and backed up to our secure server

Device and Sensor Data (via Google ARCore)

MatsyaMetri uses Google ARCore for augmented reality surface detection and measurement. ARCore processes camera frames, accelerometer, and gyroscope data locally on your device to detect flat surfaces. This data is not transmitted to our servers. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy for details on how ARCore handles device data.

            We do not collect location data, contacts, call logs, SMS, or any other sensitive device data.

3 How We Use Your Information

To create and manage your user account
To send one-time passwords (OTP) for secure email-based authentication
To store and retrieve your fish measurement sessions and records
To generate length-frequency distributions for fisheries stock assessment
To back up your measurement data securely to ICAR-CMFRI servers
To support scientific research and data-driven fisheries management at ICAR-CMFRI

            We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, marketing, or any commercial purposes.
        

4 Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for any commercial purpose.

Anonymised and aggregated measurement data may be used for scientific publications, fisheries stock assessments, and research reports by ICAR-CMFRI scientists, in accordance with institutional research policies.

5 Permissions Used

No permissions are used beyond their stated purpose. We do not request SMS, Call Log, Contacts, or Location permissions.

6 Data Storage and Security

Account, session,measurement photos and data are backed up to ICAR-CMFRI secure servers
All data transmitted between the app and server is encrypted in transit
Account access is secured through email OTP verification and JWT token authentication
No passwords are stored — MatsyaMetri uses passwordless OTP-based authentication

7 Data Retention

Your account and measurement data are retained as long as your account is active.

OTP tokens are automatically deleted after use or expiry (10 minutes). They are never retained beyond their expiry time.

8 Account Deletion

You have the right to delete your account and all associated data at any time. To request account deletion:

Include your registered email address in the request.

We will permanently delete your account and all associated data within 30 days of receiving your request.

Please note: Measurement photos saved to your device gallery must be deleted manually from your phone, as we do not have access to your local device storage.

9 Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal data:

Access — request a copy of your personal data we hold
Correction — update your email address within the app via Profile → Update Email
Deletion — request deletion of your account and all associated data (see Section 8)
Portability — export your measurement data as a CSV file directly from the app
Objection — object to processing of your data for research purposes

10 Children's Privacy

MatsyaMetri is designed exclusively for use by fisheries researchers, scientists, field survey teams, and professionals. The application is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it immediately upon discovery.

11 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable laws. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

For significant changes, we will notify users via email. Continued use of the application after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
